Victims of crime application status

CalVCB is a state program dedicated to providing reimbursement for many crime -related expenses to eligible victims who suffer physical injury or the threat of physical injury as a direct result of a violent crime. Many crime victims measure the time from when the crime occurred until they are paid. Victims of Criminal Activity: U Nonimmigrant Status. Since victims have up to two years to file a claim, this sometimes creates a misunderstanding in just how long it takes to process the claim. Included in the online report are pending claims, claims awaiting decision, and claims that have been decided within the last three years.


Crime Victim Compensation Statute. By law, OVS can reduce an award or deny a claim if the agency determines that a person’s conduct contributed to their injuries. The goal of the division is to provide a method of compensating and assisting those persons who are innocent victims of criminal acts and who suffer bodily injury or death.
