Every seconds, somewhere on the planet, someone is forced to flee. We urgently need your support to provide life-saving protection to refugee families. How to help refugees in Australia? What organizations are helping refugees?

For over years, Sanctuary has reunited families, provided interest-free travel loans, and supported the settlement of Government approved humanitarian entrant refugees, helping them to rebuild their lives in Australia from war zones around the world. However, there are only a small number of opportunities because we do not have many staff and have limited office space. As we have a small, largely part-time staff, we have limited opportunities for internships in our Sydney and Melbourne offices. From time to time, we may have capacity to take on one or two interns, depending on our priorities and capacity.


Internships must result in formal course credit at a university, preferably an Australian university. We prioritise the following in our consideration of applications: 1. People from refugee backgrounds 2. Universities with which we have an existing relationship 4. Flexible internships that do not require a long-term research report 5. Topics that are strongly aligned with our current policy priorities and staff expertise. Applications must be provided well in advanceto ensure that we have adequate time to review them, and include relevant university requirements, proposed start and end dates, information regarding the topic, and address any of the criteria for priorities ind. CARAD is an independent, community-based organisation providing essential welfare and advocacy support to asylum seekers, refugees and detainees in Western Australia.


The Humanitarian Settlement Services (HSS) program supports refugees from the moment they arrive at the airport, where SSI’s culturally and linguistically diverse workforce ensures the first words new arrivals hear are ‘welcome to Australia ’ in their preferred language. We do this both by providing services to asylum seekers and refugees in Australia , and by advocating to government on their behalf. Our services include providing financial and information support to migrants and refugees , for example through home visitation, food and financial help , visits to detention centres, and homework centres.

Every day, refugees and asylum seekers living in Australia are struggling to make ends meet. We see families living on just one meal a day. Parents unable to afford their children’s medicine.
