Justices of the Peace have a number of duties. See full list on tjctc. Clerks taking the Clerk Certification Exam will have the opportunity to select between the criminal or civil exam. Additionally, participants only need to pass one type of Clerk Certification Exam to qualify to take the Master Certification exam. Master Clerk Certification distinguishes clerks who are well-rounded and experienced in both substantive and procedural law (civil and criminal).
Master Clerks are able to utilize their thorough knowledge of laws, resources, and ethical guidelines applicable to the justice court to assist justices of the peace and instruct new justice court clerks.
Hour TJCTC Court Personnel Seminar. The four-hour session includes a review with the instructor, time to complete the exam, and a post-exam review. Participants may also register on-site at the seminar.
In order to achieve a successful testing result, TJCTC strongly encourages participants to take the steps listed below. Complete a full 16-Hour TJCTC Court Personnel Seminar prior to taking an exam. Developing this level of knowledge requires a substantial amount of experience and studying. Download and review the comprehensive Study Guide availablefor each exam type. The Study Guide requires the participant to perform research and study the of that research.
This process will require a substantial time commitment and should be undertaken weeks or months prior to an examination.
Do NOT arrive at a 16-Hour TJCTC Court Personnel Seminar expecting to perform a sufficient amount of studying at the. Testing outside a 16-Hour TJCTC Court Personnel Seminar is available on an appointment-only basis and is open to any participant who wishes to retest. To set up an appointment, please contact Laura Villarreal, the Registrar, at least business days before the preferred testing date.
In-office examination dates and times are based on staff availability and TJCTC cannot guarantee that requests to take an exam on a specific date or time will be fulfilled. The Training Center will not reimburse. Note that there will be no review class at seminars this year. Exam fees cannot be refunded after the participant begins the exam. Be sure to spend lots of time with your Study Guide before arriving at school!
Below are a list of newly certified clerks for the FYacademic year. Thank you for all your hard work. Marriage licenses are issued at the town or city level. The couple must visit the town office in person to apply for the marriage license. If both of you are residents of the state of Maine, you should both apply at the town office where at least one of you is a resident.
If you are residents of different Maine towns, you both may apply in one town or the other - you do not need to apply separately in each town. To obtain a marriage license: 1. If this is not the first marriage for one of you, bring a certified copy (raised seal) of the divorce from or death certificate of the last spouse. Applicants must be over years old.
Written parental consent is required for an applicant under 18.
No blood test is required. You may want to check with. The following individuals are authorized to perform marriages in Maine: 1. Ordained ministers of the gospel 2. A person licensed to preach by an association of ministers, religious seminary or ecclesiastical body 3. Judges or justices (residents of Maine only) 4. Lawyers admitted to the Maine Bar (residents of Maine only) 5. Soi Department of Admin.
