Is christmas in summer in australia

December and January are at the very height of our beach season, and we love to head for the beach and relax. It can be hot and humid during December , which is in the middle of summer in Australia. The longest set of school holidays in Australia are the summer school holidays. There are a number of major events and festivals in the Australian summer.

Note: When a public holiday falls on a weeken the following workday becomes a public holiday and businesses tend to close.

Australia falls in the southern hemisphere which means, its winter is in June-July while December-January is peak summer season. The celebrations on December are outdoors thanks to the great, sunny weather and people dress up in breezy, summery dresses to enjoy a day out. Since Australia also has a number of beaches, many hit the beach to get a tan or surf. Many outdoor events are also organized for people to get together and celebrate the festival. See full list on india.

Many prefer going to the beach and camping there to ring in the festival while others have a celebration at home. New Zealand has its own special carols and people sing these in many places.

Most people here are Christians and they celebrate the festival all the way up to January which is Epiphany. Many even exchange gifts during this time instead of on December 25. Many poor people tend to work on this festive day to earn extra wages.

You will find Nativity Scenes outside churches. Fir trees are used for decoration outside houses and children leave stockings to get gifts from Santa. Being summer, flowers are in bloom and people love to be outside in case it isn’t too hot. They even opt for a barbeque at times. Argentina has a large Catholic population and therefore most people go to attend midnight mass.

Bursting crackers is common here and people eat a hearty dinner too consisting of turkey or roast beef. Nativity scene decoration is also big in Argentina and so is the celebration that begins early December as many also celebrate Advent. Even so, people make it look like it is winter with their decoration that includes holly, snow, robins and more.

There are small performances by children in the church and people exchange small presents with each other. The church also gives out sweets to the people for the celebration. The greetings are in their official language which is Malagasy.

This is in the Australian Summer which starts at the beginning of December and ends at the end of February. Autumn is March to May, Winter from June to August, Spring from September to November.

Our calendar is the same as. The Australian summer starts on December and ends on the last day of February. This animated video explains it all Whil.

Summer in Australia falls between the months of December and February. It brings sunny, warm days that are best spent at one of the country’s gorgeous beaches. The tropical north is in the midst of its wet season (November to April), which brings heavy rains and tropical storms to Darwin, Broome, Cairns and the Whitsundays.

Schools have closed for the weeks of summer holidays, and many people take time off work to take advantage of the public holidays. Christmas carols are also sung in their native language. But it is not the favorable time for the tourists to visit the country. The summer in Australia is bizarre and incommodious.

The sun may be out, but you cannot go for swimming. Even there are quite often massive bush fires across the country. The only difference is that this is the season of Summer , not Winter as in the northern hemisphere. This is because when it is winter in the northern hemisphere, it is the opposite season ( summer ) in the souern hemisphere, where Australia is located. But the main distinctive feature of Australian summer is dry weather.

Complete absence of rain and dry period sometimes lasts for a very long time. Each season begins on the first day of the calendar month, so summer in Australia is from December to the end of February, autumn from March to May, winter from June to August, and spring from September to November. For starters it means christmas is in the summer holidays, already giving a more relaxed atmosphere both sides of the event.
