Seeing as much as possible is often a priority, so here are some ideas on how to do just that. Sydney to Melbourne is US$1return (you can get them as cheap as $). It’s a vibrant city full of amazing experiences and great places to eat.
Australia is like nowhere else you’ve been. One must-see landmark is the Sydney Opera House and the nearby Harbour Bridge.
If you start in Vienna in the east and head west, via Linz and Salzburg, you can see a lot of the beauty and the attractions that sweep the entire span of the country, all the way to Vorarlberg in the west at the gateway to Switzerland. If you have only a week and want to head farther afiel there are two main choices, depending on your interests. Two weeks in New Zealand gives you more opportunities to drive between destinations and take in the color of the provinces. New Zealand has good roads, but 20km (miles) in some parts of the country could be narrow, steep, and winding. Because an extra week allows you to add a trip to Pompeii, you can probably skip Ostia Antica: Choose your third day from between the catacombs of the Via Appia Antica and Rome’s less visited museums.
Trips and itineraries. From Darwin to Adelaide: days of nature, wine and Aboriginal cultures. Shortly after stepping off the plane in Sydney, you’ll be pounding along.
There are options to take a bus tour around WA, but we can’t recommend doing a self-drive itinerary. She had such a good time, the whole. Fly into Sydney to explore this spectacular city. My two - week itinerary included five national parks, five UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and three cities. Add an extra night or two in Melb and maybe a Great Ocean Rd day tour. Alternatively you could fly in to Uluru and out of Alice or vice versa to cut down on travel time.
I would skip Alice and fly in and out of Uluru.
